Starting my Accutane Journey!

I’ve finally decided to start Accutane.

This wasn’t an easy choice, but I’ve been dealing with acne since my teenage years, and it’s been a difficult decade. When I was younger, I couldn’t understand why I was going through something that felt so out of my control. Despite seeing various dermatologists, aestheticians, and spending a lot of money on treatments and antibiotics, nothing really made a lasting difference.

Adding to the struggle, I was diagnosed with PCOS, which led me to start birth control at 20. While it did help with my acne, it took a toll on my overall health. I remember how it gave me a period that lasted nearly two months, which was terrifying, and it forced me to stop taking it. And, of course, my skin broke out even worse afterward.

Growing up, I faced bullying and name-calling from people who didn’t understand that acne is a normal thing, even if it’s frustrating. I ended up blaming myself for the way I looked. Makeup became my best friend back then—imagine being just 14 or 15, crying while putting it on because I didn’t really want to wear it, but it felt necessary. I lived in a hot climate, so wearing makeup was uncomfortable, but I felt like I had no choice. It did give me a bit more confidence and made me feel a bit more accepted.

Choosing Accutane wasn’t easy, especially with all the known side effects. It took me a long time to get here, but I’m hopeful that this will finally make a difference. Here’s to starting this journey and hoping for the best.
