Entry 66

The second part to my film recommendation is here. If you have not read my previous post on the best film rolls for beginners, head to Entry 62 and have a quick read!

Trying to figure out what film is the best is confusing and sometimes gets reaaaaally exhausting. Here I have yet another 2 film roll recommendations for those who are still clueless and in need of guidance. In comparison with the last 2 films, these are on the pricier side.

#1 Kodak Portra 400

My favourite film to use for outdoor! It is one of the most widely used colour negative films is — and for good reason. In addition to being one of the most versatile and forgiving films, it also yields stunning outcomes. It works well for both low-light and outdoor photography, and despite having a 400 iso rating, the film's very fine grain is hardly noticeable when exposed properly. 400 iso is a great intermediate setting. Portra has a remarkable exposure latitude, which means it pushes and handles overexposure well. Its weathered tones and mild contrast make it the perfect background for portraiture.

#2 Kodak Ultramax 400

This colour negative film is a fantastic and cheaper substitute for Portra 400. It has a very wide range of exposure, strong saturation, medium to high contrast, and grain that is more obvious than on professional quality film but still quite attractive. It is a versatile film that works well in both bright and dim light. Its warm tones, like other Kodak films, make it a fine portrait film, and its powerful saturation makes it a good landscape film as well. So so versatile! This film is among the best low-budget films and is great for beginners because it handles overexposure so well. No need to worry about bad lighting 😉

Where to buy?

The easiest way to get your films is through shopee! But beware of scammers and fake films.
