3 MAJOR realizations I’ve had as an Indie Artist

➡️Always, ALWAYS go with your gut. Even if it seems like everyone around you is pointing you towards another direction - trust me when I say that your gut is your internal navigation system. It will lead you the right way and your will understand the “why” in due time. All of the times I’ve gone against my gut and took other direction instead, even when I knew I shouldn’t have, I paid for it greatly in time and in money.

➡️Do what is best for you: this goes hand in hand with my first realization. If your career feels like a hassle, insanely stressful, and miserable 99.9% of the time, more often than not - if you take a step back - you’ll find that you may have been doing a ton of things that aren’t necessarily the best for you, your life, financial situation, etc. You don’t have to follow every trend you see. You have to do what fits you and your particular journey best. Just because something is labeled as “industry advice” doesn’t mean it’s actually functional. A secret that is not much of a secret: a lot of “industry ppl” don’t know shat and don’t have the actual credentials, experience, knowledge, and education to lead anyone🙃If you do go with “industry advice”, make sure it’s from a verifiable and credible source (i.e. blue checkmarks and follower counts are NOT markers of actual scholarly credibility); especially before signing on dotted lines, investing any money, and dedicating your time to projects/partnerships.

➡️CELEBRATE YOUR WINS: This is a big one. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE celebrate ALL of your wins big or small. You deserve it! You put in the work and so did your team. Your music is being heard, your content and videos are being viewed. Whether 20 views/listens or 20K or 2million - people are supporting you! Your music and content are moving. Be proud of that. This journey isn’t for the faint of heart and you’re doing it. Over time, things will continue to grow. Show gratitude for the community you are growing.
