OPENED MY OWN STORE BUT WHY I LEFT!

What I would do differently

☁️OVERVIEW:

☁️My boyfriend and I opened a partnership store with our friends, which was supposedly a “clothing and kicks store”

☁️We had the sneakers and other hype stuff, our friends had a tacky women’s clothing section.

🚩RED FLAGS:

🚩Splitting rent 50/50, BUT the layout only being that we get the back wall which is also occupied with fitting rooms. No window or floor space.

DO NOT let people walk all over you! Stand your ground for what you want.

🚩 Our name wasn’t included in the contract. Their reasoning was that they didn’t want to put us through the trouble of signing it.

🚩We “were the reason why they couldn’t provide for their family.” RED FLAG! RED FLAG! RED FLAG! They have had been bouncing around stores all over the Bay Area and when they plan on going to a mall closer to where we lived they brought us in with them to split the rent. When we were about to back out, before the store even opened, they told us we needed to stay because they need to pay for so many other things.

🚩We should’ve backed out when we found out but they are THOUSANDS of dollars in debt. We tried to help out with the money we saved, like paying for groceries each month, ON TOP of paying the store rent.

🚩The store rent would “raise in price by $200 each month” which was what pushed us to move out. Because what mall raises $200 by the month?

🚩Asking for damn near $1000 by the week for “necessities” and saying that they will “pay us back.” Necessities was tickets to the zoo and museums?

🚩When trying to confront them with what we have a problem with and how we can fix it. It’s either faced with “you’re attacking us” or being non responsive for 3 days and acting like nothing happened afterwards.

🚩The disrespect that we would face is crazyyyy. My boyfriend’s mom can’t speak English that well, and his family visited the store. Later that day my boyfriend was throwing around jokes about clothes, and one of our friends say “if your mom can’t speak English why is she here” and we said “ok that’s out of line and out of the blue” we are faced with “Wow you Cali people are so soft”

🩷Don’t open a store with friends you are iffy on.

🍋I can keep going on about what has happened in the span of less than 6 months, but that’s all for today. Long story short, those friends aren’t in our life anymore and I’m happy with that. With everything that happened, we should’ve left sooner. They were gaslighting us and guilt tripping us on the daily. @ me letting all my anger out in this😂 if you made it this far I hope you enjoyed 🩷
