i think social media has showcased the super cute sides of owning a dog but i'm here to tell you that it's not all fun and games and not always cute. having a dog is a commitment of at least 10+ years and you have to make sure you're financially able to support your pup throughout their lives!

💰 food:

this depends on what your dog eats. for my dogs, she eats a mix of gently cooked food (pet cubes) and wellness complete health kibbles.

pet cubes: average of $50/month depending on the protein

kibbles: $150/a few months

i add supplements to my dog's food as well and that totals up to about $54/month

💰 treats + chews:

this depends on you but my dog gets a chew everyday and she gets treats everyday because of training! i would say expect to spend at least $100/month or so on treats but this varies for everybody and depends on the type of treats and chews you get for your pup as well!

💰 medicial bills:

vets are EXPENSIVE!! usually every time i go to the vet, i spend at LEAST $100-$200 sgd and that can sometimes be more depending on the treatment and mediciation.

for my dog's spay surgery, i spent around $1000 🥲 yearly vaccines: $100+/visit

yearly check-ups: $300 including full blood test

so you need to make sure you have enough funds in case your pup gets sick :( but also not just went they get sick but also when they are due for vaccines and whatnot

💰 gear:

this depends on the dog / person but for a good set of harness, collar, leash, etc., expect to spend at least around $70 or more!

💰 play pen / crate:

i think these cost about $100 on average!

💰 miscellaneous:

this includes things like bowls for food and water, plastic poop bags, tooth brush, brushes and such but i would say expect to spend at least $70!

then you will have to account for refilling the poop bags and also the tooth paste when it runs out and so on!

so yes:") these are my costs of owning a dog. it's definitely pricey but these will vary from person to person. but also remember these don't include any other non-essentials you want to buy for your pup like accessories and beds and whatnot! so the cost will definitely add up and be higher 🥹 but is it worth it? definitely yes ❤️
