let’s get a little deep for a moment.
in 2022, one of my goals for myself was to begin my therapy journey and heal myself. the catalyst was a temporary moment, but the effects have stood against the test of time.
1. This a marathon, not a race. Be gentle on yourself.
• Beginning therapy and unpacking my feelings, was a rough yet rewarding process. It’s not going to happen in one day, so just take it one step at a time.
2. Be honest with yourself.
• Journaling and setting realistic expectations for myself has been one of my biggest hurdles. I always put pressure on myself to be perfect and to get it right the first time. And by putting pressure on myself to be perfect, I would avoid talking about my “flaws” but truth be told, there’s a gift in imperfection. And it’s called authenticity 🫶🏾
3. Do your homework.
• 😂 Read the books and do the exercises! You’ll be surprised what you learn about yourself but also what you learn about others.
Overall, therapy isn’t something that’s going to FIX⛏️ all my problems. Instead, I use it as a toolkit in my life. When I’m feeling burnt out from working, I tap into self-care, When I’m feeling disconnected from myself, I reach out and express my needs to my friends and partner that I need some help. 💙
So here’s to more growth and a better understanding of life and myself 🥂
