These days Iโ€™ve been spending most of my time outside of work with myself. And itโ€™s been rewarding.

I found myself recognizing a pattern during one of my journaling sessions. I realized that I experience a lack of commitment to myself in certain scenarios. The irony to that is โ€” I pride myself with my work ethic, and consistency โ€” Iโ€™ve just noticed that when it comes to actioning off items that are solely for me and not tied to another person or institution Iโ€™m not as committed to seeing it through.

For example, I understand the concept of when you work in a group you are giving an individual task that benefits the group as a whole. Iโ€™d always ensure I commit to completing and excelling at that task, and feeling great at the end. On the contrast, when it comes to completing tasks for myself that has zero ties to another person I recognized Iโ€™m not necessarily as motivated as Iโ€™d be working in a group. Yes, Iโ€™d still complete my personal task and remain consistent with the timeline I set out for it, but the spark in urgency + quality + time invested in that task doesnโ€™t have that same energy when Iโ€™m in a group working with others. I didnโ€™t really like that realizationโ€ฆ.

I also think it correlates to how my natural focus operates (?) I may feel more focused when I work collaboratively (?) still exploring the root of thisโ€ฆ.giving myself grace here**

I want to get in better practice of finishing what I start. And, growing strong skills from the items I decide to invest my time with! (Most importantly).

Thusโ€ฆ..we are here. The first step in practicing better habits and thatโ€™s through exercise. I decided to pick up a new hobby that connected to a skill I have always wanted to learn, and thatโ€™s playing the guitar.

I was recommended to learn how to play the electric guitar over acoustic and itโ€™s very much more my style.

I signed up for classes near where I live, so super easy commute. Which leaves minimal excuses as to why my attendance in class is lacking.

Iโ€™m working on creating a practice schedule at home โ€” my instructor recommended at least 15 minutes a day so I may give that a try. I work 40-60 hours a week which means Iโ€™m giving myself grace to play around with a schedule I can commit to in the beginning. Then, once the schedule has been determined itโ€™s full steam ahead.

This feels fun. It feels slightly uncomfortable sucking at something again. But yet, exciting to potentially be a decent guitarist (lol).
