Art Gallery Outfit | Depressing Story of Van Gogh

Late to the party but i wanna share my experience to the most hyped exhibition of the month:

🎭 The Experience:

The exhibition definitely wasn’t the kind of exhibition i thought it’d be. For the first time in my life, i felt like i truly connected with a painter even though our lives are separated by centuries. It somehow provided solace, that even then, people too struggled with mental health. And this person, who went through so much, eventually became a significant art icon. In a way, it gave light and hope, that maybe tomorrow, maybe next month, maybe next year, i too - would live long enough to see myself as someone who inspires others.

Who knew such beautiful paintings had extremely dark, tragic back story. The stories behind his paintings made me teary eyed and also inspired - of how such a person could still find beauty and hope, despite being in the darkest point in life. If only he were alive now, he’d be happy to know that his dreams, to touch people’s heart through his art, came true.

🎭 The exhibition started with a mirrored room full of sunflowers, followed by a hall, showcasing Van Gogh’s art and bedroom. You may also take part in a short 10 minute guided drawing session of the Starry Night and Van Gogh’s bedroom in Arles. I think i did okay-ish. Definitely not worldwide famous painter level, but probably better than my friend’s hahaha. After, you get to walk in the Starry Night Walkway and finally to the highlight of the exhibition, the Immersive Projections of Van Gogh’s Life & Art.

👗The outfit:

After a lot of research, i decided to wear white to immerse with the projections.

Note: wearing white = same colour as projector screen = fully immersed into the art.

Wearing black = mimicking a shadow = creates a silhouette on the screen.

I wore an oversized white blazer with baby blue jeans as my base. To contrast with the soft, pastel palette of the outfit, i accessorised with an emerald green mini bag and heels. This is enough to give the outfit a splash of color, without it being too much.

⭐️ Visiting Tips:

1. Buy tickets online and check-in prior attending the show. Choose a date and time-slot as they have a max of 300 pax per slot.

2. Go during weekdays - lesser crowds, better photography opportunities.

3. Be respectful - do not focus too much on getting the perfect shot that you disrespect others’ personal space. Do not hoard a photo spot. Take turns.

⭐️ Verdict:

It was truly an exhibition that touched my heart. For RM45 (early bird ticket), i think that its definitely worth visiting - not really mind-blowing, but I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn a lot and gained new perspective in life. I would give the exhibition a rating of 7/10.

I’m not sure if i could say the same if i had to pay RM75 (normal price).
