How To Style Patterns for Petites | Gingham

Hi loves!

As a petite, its easy to have my outfits outshining me, especially when I’m in too much prints. If you too, are a petite, still stuck not knowing how to style prints, keep scrolling hehe.

This post will be featuring the gingham pattern. Gingham is typically a medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric typically with check or plaid duotone patterns made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarns.

In this look, i chose green patterned gingham pants as the statement piece of my look and built my outfit around it. The colour palette of choice: whites and greens. I wanted the look to be casual and laid back, so i paired it with a green denim jacket and white tennis sneakers.

As a petite, its crucial to always find patterns that complements your (our) fun-sized physiques. Only say yes to patterns that either makes you look taller, slimmer and/or does not add unnecessary amount of weight to your look.

When choosing ginghams, go for ones that are designed in smaller checkered prints. Smaller prints reduces the volume in a specific area of the body. In this case, the legs. Bigger prints tends to do the opposite. For those with rather shorter legs (like yours truly), this will make you look even shorter than you already are.

Extra petite tip for choosing cropped flare pants:

1. Make high-waisted pants your best friend as it shortens your upper body, giving the lower part an illusion of it being longer.

2. Go for minimal flared pants. Bigger flares adds extra weight to your calves. This will make your legs appear bigger especially since the pants are cropped.
