Teaching my kid to read Pt. 1

Have you done this??? And do you have any tips for someone who’s never formally taught before?! 😅

If you told me this is something I’d be doing with my 4.5 year old when he was a baby, I’d look at you like you were insane. Time flies though, and here we are building the foundations of reading..?! He expressed interest by asking what everything says (and he loves stories) so if he didn’t initiate I wouldn’t have felt the need to start quite yet. I’m definitely excited for this journey, for me and him, and hope to bring yall along on what we learn!

So pictured is what our library put together to check out, which gives us the original “hooked on phonics” lesson plan for pre-k age. I’m taking time to review all the parts tonight and it looks like it’ll mostly be letter recognition for the majority of Lvl 1, yellow book.
