Heyo Zesties 🍋

Husb and I had our first experience selling at The Luggage Market, and I’m here to share our experience and some tips that worked for us! It was overall a positive experience as we managed to sold 90% of what we brought from my closet, husband’s, and in-laws! I’ll walk you through how we organized everything – before, during, and after the market.

✅ Before the Market:

• Booking a Slot: We secured our booth using Apple Pay, which made the process super smooth as we can skip the manual steps. So be sure to act fast because slots usually fill up within 1-2 minutes 🫠

• Price Posters: We printed prices along with brand logos for that extra ✨eye-catching pop✨If you want to keep it simple, you can write using bolded markers on cardboards!

• Stock-Take: I made a list of how many items each person contributed to make splitting of the proceeds easier later 🫡

• Set-Up Essentials: we brought portal fan, decathlon chairs and bottle. It was sooo worth it to bring our Decathlon chair because it has backrests unlike the stools they provided 🥹 It will get super stuffy. As someone who does not sweat a lot… i tell you… i sweated when the sun scorched 🥵 We also noticed a lot of dust, so feel free to wear a mask if you’re allergic to dust 😷

• Eat heavy breakfast: We had nasi padang for breakfast so we can just snack on light bites. I brought a bottle to stay hydrated too. The organisers were kind to give us 2 milo packets 🥰

✅ During the Market:

• Early Arrival: Official time starts at 11am but we arrived at 10am. I would highly recommend coming in at 10am or earlier as there will be more spaces for you to push your items, set up and settle down.

• Chaotic Start: As we arrived at the market compound, some shoppers followed us and were niceee to help us rack our luggages on the elevated mat. As soon as we unzipped the luggages….many people swarmed and snagged the clothes. We got pretty overwhelmed and ngl i was shaking hahahah cus we have not even set up properly and I was worried the clothes got stolen. So yeah i tried to stay calm, breatheeee and held on the price list. 🥲

• Shoppers: Most shoppers were migrant workers, foreigners, and GenZ looking for a good thrift.

• Pricing Strategy: We started with higher prices since many items were branded, in good condition, and some even new with tags. But we had to adjust prices based on the surrounding booths to stay competitive.

Here’s the pricing breakdown 💰 -

10am to 12pm: 1 for $10, 2 for $18, 3 for $24

12pm to 2pm: 1 for $8, 2 for $14, 3 for $18

3pm to 4pm: 1 for $5, 2 for $8, 3 for $10

4pm to 5pm: $2 each, 3 for $5

5pm to 6pm: $1 each

In the end, we sold 205 pieces and made $693 in profits, with an average price of $3.26 per item. Keep in mind, TLM is about letting go and clearing your wardrobe, so only sell what you’re ready to let go at dirt cheap prices!! ☺️

✅ After the Market:

• We had 37 unsold items left by 6pm.

• Donated everything at the on-site donation booth because we don’t intend to bring it back.

• To divide the proceeds equally based on the number of items contributed, we took the average price per item and multiplied by the number of pieces each person contributed, after subtracting the balance. (See the final photo for the detailed breakdown)

Hope this helps, and good luck with your own Luggage Market adventure! ✨
