Colder months are here in California and if you're looking for a cozy getaway - I definitely recommend Getaway House Big Bear! This is perfect if you don't want to go all out camping / glamping in a tent as the tiny cabins are super warm, well-equipped, and very secure. They can be costly, but if you subscribe to their newsletter they actually send special deals constantly! During our stay they were just new so we got a great deal of $150/night.
2001 Wilderness Rd, Running Springs, CA 92382
👉🏼 2 hr drive from Los Angeles
👉🏼 30min drive to Big Bear, CA
What we loved:
⭐️ Each cabin is actually not that far from other cabins - but they are spaced and positioned strategically for maximum "seclusion"
⭐️ Huge window is definitely the best feature and is such a vibe while you lie in bed, daytime or nighttime and the rest of the cabin is so nicely designed and clean
⭐️ Kitchenette has everything you need for small meals like pots and pans, salt and pepper and kitchenware. There's a small table if you'd rather eat indoors (e.g. at night)
⭐️ Outdoor area, fire pit, and grill where you make breakfast and have coffee
⭐️ Ensuite shower & toilet with toiletries
⭐️ You can park your car right outside your cabin
⭐️ Pet-friendly (+$50 flat fee)
What could have been better:
👉🏼 Bathroom was definitely on the compact side (and I'm already a pretty small person myself!)
👉🏼 Heat didn't quite travel well to the bathroom too so taking a shower at night was a bit cold
👉🏼 Some cabins definitely have better locations than others - the good news is you can choose between a mountain or forest view. Each cabin starts at around $255/night depending on your dates.
