If I'm being honest, I do not enjoy all the squiggly drives that lead to the places you actually want to see in Yosemite. It's easy to get motion sickness and sometimes the traffic backs up and eats up your precious time! For these reasons, I've always pined for the locations of accommodations inside the park e.g. in Yosemite West, Wawona, or The Ahwahnee. BUT whenever I see the photos of the rooms AND the costsโฆ. I always instantly turn the other way.
If you're planning a trip to Yosemite and contemplating where to stay - here's a list of all the places I've stayed at on my visits to Yosemite, the costs for the month and year I stayed there, and my thoughts on which gets a repeat and which ones I will personally not return to. I do have to point out that none of these were downright horrible and a place I would 100% campaign against. Just simply that some places are better than others! And the good news: I've finally found a go-to place and definitely recommend it!
SIERRA MEADOWS, AHWAHNEE ($243.09/1 night for 4 people) Stayed in June 2019
๐ซย Loved the tiny cabin vibe, kitchenette, and property
๐ย Location was +10~15mins further away from central Oakhurst (which was already 25 mins from the South Entrance)
๐ Though I liked the accommodations, I probably won't stay again just because I don't want to add more minutes to the drive to and from the park
BEST WESTERN PLUS YOSEMITE GATEWAY INN, OAKHURST ($255.75/1 night for 4 people) Stayed in May 2021
๐ซ Great location in Oakhurst, 25mins from South Entrance
๐ Rooms are so outdated and very dark, didn't expect much but the rooms definitely have had their better days. There are other similarly priced accommodations with better upkeep - would not stay again.
STUDIO CLOSE TO YOSEMITE AND BASS LAKE AIRBNB, OAKHURST ($444.49/2 nights for 2 people) Stayed in August 2020
๐ซย Great location in Oakhurst, right next to Smokehouse 41 BBQ which has a really great brisket! Stayed here because it was at the peak of covid and some hotels were closed.
๐ซย Room was nicely furnished and we liked that there was a full kitchen
๐ย It was a room by the side of the road and we couldn't sleep from the sound of cars (we also somehow didn't feel very safe in there) - was nice, but would unfortunately not stay again
TENAYA LODGE AT YOSEMITE, FISHCAMP ($451/1 night for 4 people) Stayed November 2019
๐ซ Great location in Fishcamp, only 7 mins from the South Entrance!
๐ซ OMG - their gift shop sells these caramels that are the BEST. Even when I'm not staying here, we stop by to grab some for our hikes!
๐ Pricier rooms and only got to stay here thanks to a work trip (YES! A lighting design related work trip!) Rooms were okay, bathrooms could use a nice facelift especially for the price - would not mind staying here again (if paid for by someone else ๐)
SIERRA SKY RANCH, ASCEND HOTEL COLLECTION ($276/1 night for 4 people) Stayed October 2022
๐ซ Great location in Yosemite Forks, 20 mins from South Entrance
๐ซ Clean & comfortable rooms, bathroom was great! Cozy lobby, tasty welcome drinks, had an onsite restaurant, plus breakfast
๐ Restaurant was good but very overpriced. Will probably just eat elsewhere in town in next time!
๐ This is my officially my GO-TO place to stay for any trips to Yosemite!
NEXT UP: AUTOCAMP YOSEMITE ($544/2 nights for 2 people) Staying May 2023
Got this booking for such a great deal last Black Friday! We've been eyeing this stay for a long time and are super stoked! Stay tuned for a full review of my stay to see if it lives up to the hype ๐
Up next in Part 4 will be a detailed 3D2N Yosemite Itinerary! See you there!
