Yosemite National Park has SO MANY beautiful trails and hikes that are accessible, pet-friendly, beginner-friendly, and an absolute haven for advanced hikers. Personally, I'm more of a optimistic beginner hiker - welcomes a bit of challenge but in it more for the views & enjoyable workout π
If it's your first time in Yosemite, I definitely recommend the two following hikes for the BEST views of the park. Unfortunately what I list below are not pet-friendly nor accessible, but I'll be covering more trails in upcoming posts! At the end I also mention which hike I will not do again and don't really recommend (especially if you're short on time). Enjoy!
If you can only do one hike: β¨ TAFT POINTβ¨
ππΌ Taft Point is 2.2 miles roundtrip and takes about an hour to complete
ππΌ Trailhead location: PC77+2F Yosemite Valley, California along Glacier Point Rd
ππΌ Parking: Small paved lot but plenty of overflow along the road
ππΌ Expect to take much longer because the views here are JAW-DROPPING. If you have a fear of heights, note that the cliff drop at the viewpoint is about 3,500 feet from the valley floor BUT there will be a spot with some railing so you can feel protected and still enjoy the view.
ππΌ This is also a great place to sit and have a snack or your lunch!
If you have time for a second hike: β¨ SENTINEL DOME β¨
ππΌ Sentinel Dome is 2.2 miles roundtrip, about an hour to complete
ππΌ Trailhead location & parking: (same as Taft Point)
ππΌ The views here are completely different as you get a 360-degree view of the park from Sentinel Dome! The trail is relatively flat throughout except when you get to the actual dome where you have to do a bit of scramble. Completely worth it and GORGEOUS at sunset! We even witnessed a proposal up here!
Trail to skip: WASHBURN TRAIL to Mariposa Grove π
ππΌ If you want see the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, you'll need to either have a car with a disabled placard to park right beside the grove, or hike the Washburn Trail (2 miles each way) to get to the Mariposa Grove.
ππΌ This hike in my opinion was not really worth the time and the views being mostly covered in trees and arriving to a parking lot at the top (quite underwhelming)
ππΌ Pro tip: They have a shuttle that runs every 10 mins from the Welcome Plaza in the summer through fall. I wish we knew better at the time!
Have you hiked any of these trails? Let me know which is your favorite!
Up next is Part 3 where I'll be sharing the places I've stayed in the past, pros and cons and if they're worth it!
