New BTO: Is defect checks necessary?

When scrolling through social media, i always see comments/videos/pictures from others on how terrible their BTO conditions are. Hence when it’s my turn to get my keys, i turned to professionals for help with the defect checking.

If you’re lucky enough, your ID might do some basic defect checks for you FOC, but we weren’t that lucky.

A pre reno defect check for a 4/5 room BTO would cost you about 200-300 SGD and the company we engaged sent 1 person, who checked the place for about 1.5 hours. Thereafter he walked me through the defects and arranged for a meeting with BSC and I a few days later

While there were 200+ defects spotted, we noticed that majority of the defects were quite minor/cosmetic like chipping of paint etc., while only 30+ were major (hollow tiles, uneven flooring, etc.,)

Though it saved me the trouble of doing the checks myself, i probably would not hire a professional defect checker for my new place and DIY the defect checks myself instead/get my ID to do it.
