annotate a book with me! 📚

I don’t always annotate books but Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi is quite popular and a book I’ve been looking forward to reading for awhile now!

/I always start with adding a few tabs that match the color of the book. It just looks aesthetically pleasing to me once I finish the book. This isn’t something you have to do but I love it!

/AnnotatewithSara on TikTok had a great idea to annotate family trees with page numbers next to characters! I love this idea especially when it comes to references characters.

/I typically define any words or concepts unfamiliar to me in the margins. It makes it easier upon reread or to simply reference as I’m reading. Many books already have this especially fantasy books!

/As I was reading, one theme that jumped out to me is this concept of ancestral consequences. Or the decisions your ancestors made having consequences on your bloodline. I think it’s fascinating and the structure of this book makes it even more intriguing.

/I highlight and tab any quotes that jump out to me. This one in particular is so important not just for this book but for life in general! “Weakness is treating someone as though they belong to you. Strength is knowing that everyone belongs to themselves.”

/After reading the first few chapters, I can then come up with my tabbing system or what each tab will mean for this book! It’s easier this way then doing a tab system beforehand because every book is different.
