Should I get chickens and ducks?

Every time I go to tractor supply, my daughter heads straight to the chicks🐤. She’s usually super excited to see them and will ask if we can get some. I feel bad telling her no not right now(but it’s mostly because I haven’t had a single clue of how to take care of them) I told her maybe one day when mommy does more research we can get some baby chicks to raise. Also when we get some more space aka land lol HOA might not like that right now🙃

Anyone own and chickens and can give me some insights of what it’s like? I’m worried about predators and keeping them safe but also interested in free range life for them. Also interested in ducks 🦆
