High cortisol levels, often caused by stress, can cause many different health issues such as weight gain, bloating, insomnia, anxiety and depression. It’s so important to start your day off right to help keep your cortisol levels in check.

Here are some tips to keep your cortisol levels low in the mornings:

1) Let sunlight wake you up. Natural light wakes you up slowly and gets your circadian rhythm on track. This is so much better than waking up from a blaring alarm. Get a sunlight lamp for the days the sun doesn’t rise early enough.

2) Practice Gratitude. It’s so easy to get stressed and overwhelmed by the days tasks, but taking time to reflect and be grateful for your life helps keep the stressful thoughts at bay.

3) Juice over coffee. I know this is an unpopular one, but caffeine spikes your cortisol levels. Try to limit caffeine intake or at least don’t drink first thing in the morning.
