Top picks for sunflower seeds to grow this summer

Do you plan out your summer garden, or wing it?

Typically, I wing it, but this year this will be my first time attempting to grow sunflowers from seeds, which requires a bit more prep work.

I decided to grow sunflowers from seeds because it’s often difficult to find a wide variety of small sunflower plants at nurseries.

I like this mix because it’ll offer a nice variety of colors in my garden and will grow to different heights. Plus, having a mix of sunflower varieties will serve different purposes. Some will be for cutting, while others will be grown to produce bird seeds.

Here are the sunflower varieties I’ll be growing, and how tall they get:

- Velvet Queen: 4-5 ft tall

- Cutting Gold: 5 ft tall

- Evening Sun: 6-7 ft tall

- Mammoth Russian: 7-12 ft tall

- Mammoth: 12 ft tall
