So I decided to try eating a (nearly) animal-based diet because I was having serious health issues. I had heard of some women sharing their stories about how the carnivore diet helped them heal their gut, PCOS and inflammation so I decided to give it a try because worst case scenario … nothing happens.
I chose carnivore because I had tried it in the past as a crash diet, and it worked just like any crash diet. I lost some weight and then I gained it all back once I went back to eating whatever. And while it didn’t help my mental health (as crash diets never do) I did notice a huge improvement in my joint pain/inflammation.
I also knew that a plant-based diet wouldn’t be the best option for me. Last lent, I had decided to give up alcohol and meat so I ended up eating a clean vegetarian and at times vegan diet. During that time, I put on roughly 7lbs, my gut health was terrible, my skin was breaking out, and I just felt all around horrible.
So far the effects have been amazing. I’m lost 6lbs the first week, my skin has cleared up, I no longer deal with the midday bloat, I am much more regular, I am focusing better at work and my anxiety has decreased.
While, breaking my weight-loss plateau is a plus - this isn’t about losing weight. This is about healing myself from the inside out.
I don’t anticipate doing a strict carnivore diet forever and I plan on re-introducing veggies and fruit back into my diet one at a time and seeing how I react.
However, this experiment has been incredibly fascinating, and we are only just getting started!
