Hey Lemonades 🍋

Let’s talk about the difference between 저는 (jeoneun) and 나는 (naneun). For your information, 저는 and 나는 share the same meaning, it’s both mean “I” in English. But they are used in different situations based on level of respect.

🍋 저는 is used when speaking in the polite form known as 존댓말 (jon-daet-mal) which ends in -아/어요 or -ㅂ/습니다

🍋 나는 is used in informal 반말 (ban-mal) form which ends with 야/여

🍋 Examples :

🌸저는 배고파요 (jeo-neun bae-go-pa-yo) (polite)

🌸나는 배고파 (na-neun bae-go-pa) (informal)

Means : I’m hungry

🌸저는 서울에 안 가 봤어요 (jeo-neun seoul-e an ga bwass-eo-yo) (Polite)

🌸 나는 서울에 안 가 봤어 (na-neun seoul-e an ga bwass-eo) (Informal)

Means : I’ve never been to Seoul

🌸 저는 말레이시아 사람입니다 (jeo-neun malleisia sa-ram-im-ni-da) (Polite)

🌸 나는 말레이시아 사람이야 (na-neun malleisia sa-ram-i-ya) (Informal)

Means: I’m Malaysian

There are actually plenty of words which have the same meaning, if you get 저는 & 나는 mixed up, don’t worry too much 😊 Yes, saying 나는 in situations where you’re supposed to use 저는 can be seen as a rude but you’re studying a new language so don’t worry people will understand your situation 😉
