A lot of people tell me that they want to start meditating but they don’t know how. Here are some of my tips! 🧘🏽‍♀️

First, start small. Set a timer for 3 minutes. Find a comfortable seat and soften your gaze or close your eyes if you feel comfortable. All you have to do is focus on your breath, it’s really that simple 😌

Meditation doesn’t mean your mind is blank. What you really want to do is practice bringing your attention to your breath. Noticing how it feels as you inhale and exhale. You can choose the part of your body (your nose, chest, or stomach) that makes it easiest for you to focus on the sensations of the breath. When your mind wanders or thoughts pop up, just bring your attention back to your breath. This is the whole practice 🧠💭🌬️

Once you can do this for 3 minutes, set your timer for 5. Continue to increase the time as you feel comfortable ⏱️

Another option is to choose a set number of inhales and exhales. For example you might decide to count to 10, inhaling on 1 and exhaling on 2. Having the counting can help you stay focused on your breath if you find starting really difficult 🔢

This type of mindfulness trains our brains to re-focus attention, by bringing it back to the breath each time something comes up 🔄
