Have you ever feel like your brain just won’t shut off? You’re replaying an awkward conversation, second-guessing decisions, and constantly worrying about things beyond your control.

✨ That’s called rumination!

I’d find myself lying in bed, going over the same thoughts for hours, and feeling trapped in my own mind. It stopped me from being present and enjoying life.

So, I began to practice some simple techniques to break the cycle. Here are a few that have made a big difference for me:

🧶 Get Distracted (I know, right?)

Whenever my mind starts spinning, I distract myself by doing something I love. Sewing or watching my favorite show (Gossip Girl, anyone?) gives my brain something else to focus on and helps me get out of my head.

🧘🏻‍♀️ Breathing Techniques

Try this: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, then exhale for 6. Do this a few times, and you’ll notice your mind slowing down.

👋🏻 Feel Into Your Senses

Grounding myself in the moment is another way I stop the negative thought spiral. I look for 5 things I can see, 4 I can touch, 3 I can hear, 2 I can smell, and 1 I can taste. It helps remind me of the present and pulls me out of my thoughts.
