A skin specialist once told me, "Sorry, but unfortunately eczema can't be cured." How was I supposed to respond to that 😭??

Honestly, after that, I stopped bothering with skin checkups and just started getting my medication from the polyclinic. I mean— what’s the point of going to a skin centre if they're just going to say the same thing, and it costs way more than Polyclinic?

‼️(However, it might be different for those with more severe eczema than mine.)

Anyway! Let me show you how I manage my eczema to keep my skin soft, supple, and inflammation-free! While eczema can't be cured, it can definitely be prevented from flaring up.

CONTEXT: My eczema is genetic(self-proclaimed), and I've had it since birth (MAJOR L). It's covered pretty much my entire body, including my face, neck, and feet. Even today, people still ask what's wrong with my skin.

‼️ DISCLAIMER: What works for me may not work for you!

Products I use:

1. Dermasone (0.05% and 0.025%) - Apply thinly on affected areas. You can get it from the polyclinic.

2. Aqurea - Basic moisturizer cream available at Watson, NTUC, Guardian, and the polyclinic.

3. Suno Hada Moisturizing Mist Quick Itch Relief – Spray on affected areas when you feel like scratching (Minty). Great for use outdoors. Available at Watson, NTUC, Guardian, and the polyclinic.

4. Bangkok Balm Organic Acanthaceae (MINTY AF) – You can find this on Shopee/Lazada or at Lucky Plaza (sorry, I don’t remember the shop name 😭).

5. Telfast – The most effective pill for itchiness and rash. You can get it from Watson and Pharmacies

6. Vaseline Original Healing Petroleum Jelly – Can be found in almost all beauty and supermarket stores.

☄️ BIGGEST TIP:

ALWAYS moisturize.

🌙 Night routine for affected areas 😴

STEP 1: Apply Dermasone cream thinly on affected areas

STEP 2: Wait a couple of minutes to 5 for the Dermasone cream to fully absorb. (I’m lazy so I’d go with the 2 mins)

STEP 3: Apply a layer of Aqurea Cream on the affected area and gently spread it.

STEP 4: Lock the moisture with a thick layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on top of the Aqurea Cream.

This is just based on my hypothesis, but it actually works! The Dermasone helps reduce inflammation, the Aqurea cream provides moisture since the skin tends to dry out later, and the Vaseline locks in that moisture to keep it maintained. 🫢🫢🫢 Woop Woop!

🤩 Day Routine ☀️

Bring the Suno Hada or Bangkok Balm Organic Acanthaceae with you wherever you go. You can find a smaller bottle for the Bangkok Balm! Both are minty and cold, and help reduce inflammation and itchiness. Fun fact: Acanthaceae has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties!

⭐️ What about typical skincare? 😗

If my face is still inflamed, I follow the same steps as my night routine but with less concentrated since I’ll be out and about.

Right now, I’m using a toner from a Japanese brand (I don’t know the name, but you can see the photo up there!), and I kid you not, it doesn’t burn my skin! It’s actually super moisturizing, and I got it at Watson.

When my skin isn’t inflamed, I stick to a simple four-step routine: cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen. As someone who wears makeup, I use very little when my skin is inflamed, as it can really damage my skin.

☄️ BASIC TIPS:

-Is the weather too hot? Wear your shades, cap, or hat, and try to stay indoors or in the shade (Inflammation brr).

- Avoid getting too close to the air conditioner, as it can dry out your skin and make it super itchy (trust me, I’ve learned this from experience since I sleep with an air conditioner).

- If you sleep in an air-conditioned room, place a bowl of water in your room while you sleep to prevent it from getting too dry.

- Whenever you feel the urge to scratch, take your Telfast pills (they are non-drowsy and they work wonders!).

- If you feel itchy, quickly spray your Suno Hada or apply the Bangkok Balm. It’s very minty and cold! Eases itchiness Fr!

- Speaking of touching, do NOT touch your face or any part of your body with your nails. Nails are generally dirty, and germs can get stuck there, which can then be transferred to your eczema, potentially worsening the condition.

-If you can't stand the itch, try tapping your skin instead of scratching. Just tap gently; it's all about discipline, fr.

-Be mindful of what you eat, as some foods can trigger inflammation. For me, I’ve found that I can't have too much soy sauce.

I have A LOT to say. But that’s about it for now! Hope it helps!! <333
