Hello #GloGetter !

I’m excited to unpack this #maincharacter trend that has been buzzing all over the internet lately. Now, you know I’m not the biggest fan of mindset trends because they typically ask you to change yourself in order to subscribe to them… However, this trend just may be the exception and NOT the rule.

To give you a little context, the Main Character Effect is when you actively choose to see yourself as the main character of your own show, movie, comic book… whichever medium feels more like your life.

I personally like viewing my life as a dramedy similar to a show like *Insecure*. It allows life’s messed-up, embarrassing, and plot-twist moments to feel a little more light-hearted without the need for a full-on laugh track. Seeing things as a TV show rather than a movie allows me to feel like my life can flow in episodes, seasons, and even spin-offs depending on how prepared I am to close or even revisit a chapter in my life.

No matter which medium you choose to see your life in, all of these fun ways to shift into the main character mindset will hopefully be helpful and effective. Let’s get into it!

1. **Create a soundtrack for your life.**

This activity is so fun and exciting to me, mainly because I love music, but also because I’ve been doing this for yearssss. Like, legit a new monthly playlist since 2015 😅 (lmk if you’d like to see a post more in-depth on this actually👀). ANYWAYS. Passively adding music to your life can change so much. It can transport an otherwise solo trip to the museum into an episode of *Emily in Paris* or an investigative thriller where the undercover PI is conducting research on their next spy gadget. Obviously, this all depends on the kind of story your life looks like, as well as the kind of museums you frequent lol. I think I’m most passionate about this activity because there are so many ways you can approach it. You can make one massive never-ending playlist of your favorite songs, or you can even make playlists for each daily activity or hobby you know you can listen to music to while doing. Call me lazy, but I’ve dabbled in the second technique by bookmarking Spotify’s recommended cooking playlists, workout playlists, and other niche life activity playlists they’ve curated based on my expressed music interests.

2. **Set daily, monthly, or even quarterly intentions.**

These intentions should be things you want to focus on as you move through the world. Having these intentions will allow you to separate the episodes, chapters, acts, and so on of your life story being told. Maybe for this month, you want to focus on expressing more gratitude. If you record this intention in a concrete way where you are less likely to deviate from it, it gives you a lens to see life choices and conflict through. Focusing on this intention will create a simple and traceable way for you to root for yourself as if you’re watching the character in your favorite show. The only difference? This story you’re completely in control of. Well, for the most part.

3. **TURN UP YOUR INNER MONOLOGUE.**

Lolll was I yelling? My b. But that’s how loud I need your hilarious, real, and raw side commentary to be. Life is confusing and hard AF sometimes, and idk about you, but when it gets that way, I have WORDS. Don’t hold those words back. Express them… INTERNALLY, queen. Yeah, you heard me. The key word is INNER monologue. Especially if your humor may be a little dark and/or potentially outta pocket, keep it to yourself. But don’t silence it. This is yet another way to practice being your own best friend and enjoying your own company. You can be the only one to hear and laugh at your own jokes, and they’re still just as funny. Think Lizzie McGuire’s animated mini. She’s such a great example of this practice.

4. **Update the cast from time to time.**

Yeah, you heard that right. Sometimes some people need to be written off the script, and other times, some people deserve a bigger role. These sorts of audits of the people in your space need to happen regularlyyyy. Allow me to emphasize, no one is safe either. If *The Vampire Diaries* can kill the main character off at the drop of a dime, know that your writers' room needs to be just as cutthroat. Your story, though multi-dimensional and full of unexpected plot twists, needs to be about uplifting the main characters in a healthy way and moving forward!! If any cast member or character is taking away from that nonnegotiable theme, they gotta go. Maybe you don’t need to completely kill them off, but maybe their role in the narrative needs a cute adjustment. Maybe it’s time to take them from a supporting role to a background extra. Maybe this character doesn’t get renewed for the next season, but occasionally they make a cameo or pop up in flashbacks. Maybe this character has been getting neglected by the writers' room (that’s you, babe), but has proven to be a fan favorite for all the right reasons. They probably deserve a bigger and possibly even spicier role.

5. **Do it for the plot, and deal with the consequences later.**

Now, sister, don’t take this outta proportion and start committing crimes or get pregnant or something crazy. Let’s identify the plot twists we really DON’T want in our immediate futures and avoid actions that ladder up to that like the plague. Howeverrrr, anything outside of that that also won’t bring you or others potential harm, say F-it and go for it! Doing this allows you to make the story of your life more interesting and learn more about your favorite main character… Yourself!

These are only a FEW ways you can transition your mindset into seeing yourself as a main character and FEELING like the main character in your story. There’s so much more where that came from too.

If this is a topic you’d want to learn more about, let me know in the comments. I’m low-key itching to write another post on this, but I’m also committed to spending time on the things that matter to you.

Let ya girl know!
