Phrases You Need For Your Japan Trip! 🗣️

Before heading to Japan, its good to learn some basic Japanese phrases, to get around, so here is a really compressed list that i compiled before heading to Japan! To be frank google translate and other translation apps are more than sufficient for your trip here but it definitely wouldn’t hurt to learn a few basic ones!

1️⃣ General:

あと (ato) - Also/and

はい (hai) - yes

いいえ (iie） -no

これ（kore） - this

お願いします （onegaishimasu) - please

だいじょぶ (Dai jobu) - I'm ok/it's ok

すみません (Sumimasen) - Excuse Me / Im Sorry

これください (Korekudasal) I’ll take this / Please give me this

(トイレ/xx)はどこですか? [(toire/xx) wa doko desuka] - where is the toilet / where is xx ?

2️⃣ Greetings:

よろしくお願いします（yoro shiku onegaishimasu) - nice to meet you

こんにちは (kon ni chi wa) - hello/good afternoon

おはようございます （ohayou go zaima su） -good morning

こんばんは （konbanwa） - good evening

おやすみなさい （oyasu minasai） - good night

ありがとうございます （arigatou gozaimasu） - thank you (formal/polite)

どういたしましいて （douita shima shite） - you're welcome

3️⃣ Restaurants / Eateries:

1人1人/3人でお願いします。(hitori/futari/sannin de onegaishimasu) - 1/2/3 people please?

予約はしてますか？(yoyaku wa shitemasu ka) - Did you make a reservation?

カウンターカテーブルどちらがいいですか？(kaunt ka teburu dochira ga idesu ka) - Counter or table?

これでお願いします (kore de onegaishimasu) - this please

これとこれでお願いします (kore to kore de onegaishimasu) - this and this please

お冷や/お湯でお願いし (o hiya/o yu de onegaishimasu) - cold/hot water please

英語メニューはありますか (eigo menyu wa arimasuka) - do you have an english menu?

いらない (iranai) - i don't want

以上です (ijodesu) - that's all

大丈夫 (daijoubu) - it's okay

お会計お願いします (o kaike onegaishimasu) - bill please!

以上でよろしいですか。(ijou de yoroshii desuka) - Is that all?

(ビール/xx)はありますか？[(biiru/xx) wa arimasuka?] - Do you have beer? / Do you have xx?

Item number: (eg, Takoyaki hitotsu = One serving of Takoyaki )

1. ひとつ（hitotsu）

2. ふたつ（futatsu）

3. みっつ（mittsu）

4. よっつ（yottsu）

5. いつつ (itsutsu)

6. むっつ (muttsu)

7. ななつ (nanatsu)

8. やっつ (yattsu)

9. ここのつ（kokonotsu）

10. とお（too）

4️⃣ Convenience Stores:

ふくろいりますか? (Hukuto irimasuka?) - Do you need a plastic bag

あたためますか? (atatamemasuka?) - Would you like to heat up the food?

おしはらい ほうほうはどうされますか? (Osiharai houhou ha dousaremasuka?) - How would you like to рау?

これいくらですか？(Kore Ikura desuka?) - How much is this?

Just a disclaimer that, these are mostly translated phrases I got online on google and other websites, so there might have been some spelling mistakes etc, but i mostly double checked it so it should be alright! Hope this helps in your next trip to Japan!
