With the closure of Golden Mile, the ever popular Thai Supermarket has moved to the nearby Aperia Mall and with a little revamp as well! Besides the usual snacks and items you can get there, they have a few cooked food stalls and even a nail salon as well!

You can get your favourite Thai snacks without having to set foot on an airplane, they stock popular snack items from Mama instant noodles, unique thai drinks and tidbits like spicy squid, Lays and special flavours of Pretz and Pockey. Not to mention there is an entire section for medication and other household items that many of us bring back on our trips to Thailand.

I was particularly excited to try out their cooked food stalls as it looked and smelled super appetising. At Yung Yung, I ordered their specialty Yaowarat Buns. There were 8 unique flavours to choose from and they toast their buns to give it a crisp finish which i liked. The Milky Milk ($3.50) had butter and condensed milk slathered on the inside, the bun absorbed the butter and condensed milk well till it penetrates deep inside and it makes for such a delicious sweet & savoury combo.

They also sell drinks at the store and I had the Champagne Grape ($5.20), which was actually quite refreshing, there was the hint of grape in the fizzy soda and it felt good for such a hot weather although I wished they added some toppings in it like grape bits which would elevate it more. The Thai Milk Tea ($4.20) in comparison hits the basic boxes for a good thai milk tea, but leaned towards the sweeter side.

Next, we had the Mooping with Sticky Rice ($6.50) from Thai Yum Mee, this felt abit lacklustre to me as the mooping felt alright but leaned towardss the drier side without the signature juiciness in the meat. The sticky rice didn’t elevate the dish whatsoever, there was not much fragrance to it and not to mention it did not have the glutinous texture i associate with sticky rice. Probably can give this a skip.

Last up is the Talad Thai Banana store, there was an insane queue for their deep fried menu items it took me about 45 mins of queueing before i got to the front of the queue. They have multiple options of fried items like the Fried Banana, Sweet Potato Balls and Thai Fried Yam or you can choose to mix and match if you can’t decide what to go for. I decided to go for their Fried Banana ($4 for 6), it was super crisp and it was not too mushy or thick as they sliced the banana into individual thin slices unlike in goreng pisang. We had the new batch that was fresh out of the fryer, being super hot, made it such a treat. The batter itself is savoury and it pairs well with the sweet banana, the batter was not just plain better as there were nuts and sesame seeds in it which gave it an extra aroma and crunch.

If your cravings for some Thai snacks and other items or just want to get some good thai food while shopping head on down to check their new store location!!
