🍂Decorating a Cottage Porch for Autumn🍂

Autumn is my favorite time to decorate our cottage porch. All the beautiful colors, the fun gourds and pumpkins, and some spooky Halloween pieces. If you layer all your decor, you can simply remove the spooky parts on 11/1 and let the gourds and mums carry into Thanksgiving.

🐶 My most important decor is little Lorelai the Cavachon. This is her cottage and she just employs us as caretakers. She is always up for an outfit and photo shoot.

🎃 I shop for our colorful gourds, pumpkins, and mums at a nursery that is local to us. They have the BEST selection. Mixing texture and colors is key and as long as you pick what you like, you can’t go wrong! Rosie's Gardens and Hughes Landscape

🍂 For mums, I pick out darker colors because they don’t show fading as bad (yellow and white are a no go for me). Additionally, try to select ones that haven’t started to bud. They will last you longer throughout the season. A final mum trick is leaving them in the original pots and then soaking them in water (and sometimes epsom salt) in a bucket. Mums love to be watered from below.

🍂 This years potted variety planters were ones I pieced together. I’m sooooo happy with the end result. I used an ornamental grass for height, ornamental cabbage because it does so well in the fall temps, orange and red pansies, and a sweet potato vine to hang over the edges. The tiny little pumpkins add a final touch.

🦇 The bats are a new addition this year and I found them on Amazon. (Note: I used a sticky clay to adhere them versus the provided backing. Per reviews the original backing can damage paint.)

💀🎃 The skull with pepper plant and SO cool orange and black pumpkin were also from my local nursery. After Halloween, I’ll remove those and the bats and the cottage will be Thanksgiving ready!

🌻 The wreath was a blast to make with a dear friend. Using a grapevine wreath, I layered on faux florals, leaves, and velvet pumpkins. Everything is attached with floral wire to keep it firmly in place. So simple and easy to do.
