hammock market was DISAPPOINTING for me 😟

Just last weekend I sold all my clothes at hammock market and luggage market. I applied for hammock market some time back and didn’t hear from them. However, I was lucky enough to snag a slot for luggage market. On the same day the luggage market slots were released, hammock market got back to me to tell me I got the slot 🥲 I decided to go ahead with both anyway just in case I had leftover items to sell + I was planning on sharing both booths with my friends anyway (boy, I’m so glad I did that now)

🛏️ Hammock Market (1 June)

Overall, our experience was very disappointing. We had really high expectations of hammock market especially after seeing so many good reviews of it on lemon8. Maybe we were just unlucky? It was pouring that day and the crowd was pretty dead… Even with all the influencers there that day, based on what we saw, we don’t think the business was that great for them either. We barely covered our rent (for my friend at least) and expenses. In fact I only earned $91 😂 Sounds like a joke but it’s not. Given that this is my first hammock market experience, I’m not sure if I would come back again and give it another chance. I did notice that people for hammock market are less keen and likely to dig through your messy pile of clothes and stores with lesser items and neatly displayed clothes on the hammock does better. Just so you know, I brought a huge luggage of clothes and I only sold like 50%…?

I do like that we can price our clothes at a higher price for hammock market but even so, people are still quite picky 😅 One thing to note tho, the hammock only booth is cheaper than a luggage market booth! So if you split it with a friend = you pay lesser than you’d have to for the luggage market!

🧳 Luggage Market (2 June)

I have been to luggage market a few times now and never once have I been disappointed. I brought an extra box of clothes on top of the leftover clothes in my luggage from hammock market. Initially was a littleeeee worried that I wouldn’t be able to sell everything after my experience at hammock market the previous day but all my worries went away when I was greeted by the fierce crowd!! It did rain too but the crowd never died down, it just kept going and going.

I do have to price my clothes lower at luggage market (no higher than $10 for a bag and no higher than $6 for clothes). Also you gotta be prepared to reduce the prices like mad when it’s 4pm onwards. We knew we wanted to leave around 5pm so at 4pm we dropped all our clothes prices to $2. From 4.30pm, it was $1 for 2pcs.

We managed to sell a good 95% of our items. While the prices we sold it were way lower than what we bought it for, my logic is that even if you were to hoard and keep it at home it’s gonna generate $0. Even if you want to sell it on carousell/telegram, it takes forever…. the clothes will still continue to sit in your room and you’ll never be able to make space for the new clothes you’ve bought. On top of that you have to deal with people ghosting you, mailing and meet ups 😪 It’s just not worth it for me.

In total, I made $240++ from luggage market. It’s pretty decent for me imo. My friend made $180++ which was also pretty good!!!

For now, I’m not sure if I’ll give hammock market another go. I’ll see how it goes or maybe split it with more friends to reduce my rent + expectations 😪
