Two years ago, I interned at Tapestry – the global fashion house for Coach and Kate Spade. It was my first time being in the fashion industry after having only dreamt about it since watching Devil Wears Prada. Unfortunately, it is not all glitz and glamour, at least not the role I was positioned in. I was under Marketing which included offline and online channels. During my time there, my supervisors were all really sweet and they gave me the autonomy to handle the projects that were given to me at the start. I won’t list them here because *confidentiality* but what I appreciated was that they really prioritise your learning outcomes by discussing the kind of projects and responsibilities you’ll undertake in the 6 month internship. Mine ranged from planning activations to business analysis to eventings so I’d say I got the full 360 experience of marketing in luxury retail. Once I even got to pair outfits for a KOL shoot which was super fun for me hehe. I also got to immerse myself in the role of a store assistant spending a whole day in the stores and facing customers.

My biggest takeaway was probably learning about how clientele is so important in this industry, and seeing how to localise such a big global brand to make it more relevant to Singapore. It was definitely a good starter especially since I have an interest in Fashion and learning the terminologies and the kind of marketing strategies fashion brands adopt was very insightful for me.
