If I were to restart my fitness journey from scratch, here are 5 things I’d do:

1) Start small & steady

Doing 1-3 low to medium intensity strength training consistently is more sustainable than slamming heavy workouts daily then stop after 3 weeks of exercising.

2) Lifting weights instead of only doing HIIT & cardio

There are places and times for high intensity workouts. But if you’re just starting, it’s easy to get burned out & discouraged by those intense workouts, making you want to give up early.

3) Incorporating daily mobility works

Mobility training is strength training. A lot of stiffness, injuries, and joint pains could be prevented if we do mobility training regularly. It’s pointless to have strong muscles if you can’t move your body freely & painlessly.

4) Focusing on low impact cardio

You don’t necessarily have to hyperventilate & sweat profusely to get a good workout. Low impact movements such as walking, swimming, yoga, and pilates can be just as beneficial, if not better, for your health.

5) Not rushing into lifting heavier weights

Overload progression doesn’t only mean you have to increase the weight you lift every week. Sometime, slowing down & focusing on your muscle control would work better for your long-term gain.
