Why I stopped doing highlights 🤷🏼‍♀️

I never colored my hair until I started working in a salon, I was very nervous to touch my natural color. I ended up getting a full highlight the first time! I loved it! My hair was as white as a blonde as it was as a kid! Later on, I found out my co worker used 30 volume developer all over my head. After this I started to worry about my hair integrity. I didn’t stop putting bleach on my head though

I got my hair done again in beauty school, my fellow student only painted on a few pieces with no foils so my hair didn’t feel much different. Then at my new salon, I get highlights done twice there. By the second time my hair felt frail, damaged and even finer than it naturally was.

I didn’t blame the second stylist who did my highlights for my damage per say. I always wonder if the original stylist used lower developer, if my hairs integrity would’ve been able to stand accidentally overlapping and damage.

Now, I’ve started to do a overall high lift single process with a glaze and I couldn’t be happier! My natural color isn’t far away from a platinum blonde so this process is perfect for me! My new growth since starting this feels so much better too!! I’ve cut out most bleach damage by now.

At the end of the day everyone doesn’t have dark blonde hair or light hair to begin with. Nothing is wrong with getting highlights either!!!! The moral of the story is to really do research into where you plan on going and who you’re going to for processes like highlights. Bleach is no joke. My original job wasn’t the most professional place either and I should’ve just left my natural color alone. But you live and learn! Now I’ve found what works for me though and won’t be going back!
