Planning a trip to Taiwan? We just got back and learned SO much, so we're sharing our top tips to make your trip amazing! ✨

💳 Must-Have: The Easycard!

Skip the hassle of buying single-use MRT tickets! Get an Easycard - it's super cheap (around NT$100-300 depending on the design) and available at any convenience store (think 7-Eleven, Family Mart, etc.). Plus, it saves you time at the ticket machines.

🚕 Local Ridesharing Hack: FindTaxi!

Ditched Uber for FindTaxi, a Taiwanese app created by locals for locals (and tourists!). It's super user-friendly in multiple languages, lets you choose your driver, and offers metered fares or set prices. The best part? FindTaxi is donation-based, so fares are cheaper than other platforms, drivers earn more, and you get picked up faster! Win-win-win!

👟 Comfy Shoes: Trust Us!

We learned this the hard way... Don't prioritize fashion over function! Choose comfy shoes with good support for all that walking. Remember, outside of Taipei, sidewalks might not be the best (we're talking sprained ankle potential!), so prioritize comfort!

🚮 Plastic Bags: Pack Them (Maybe)!

Taipei has trash bins everywhere, but venture outside the city, and you might be surprised! Having a few plastic bags on hand can help you keep your trash contained until you find a bin. Pro-tip: We politely asked vendors to toss our trash sometimes - they're usually happy to help! ♻️

🔐 Luggage Lockers: Your Shopping Savior!

Don't let heavy bags slow you down! Most MRT stations have luggage lockers for just NT$30 (around SGD$1.27) for 3 hours. Perfect for stashing your shopping bags or suitcases while you explore. Need more time? No problem! Just pay an additional NT$30 for each 3-hour extension (way cheaper than Singapore or other countries!).

🇹🇼 Taiwan's Toilet FYI!

Here's a little-known fact we discovered: There are NO toilets on the MRT TRAINS themselves (unlike HSR & TRA trains which do have them). But fear not! Every MRT station has clean and well-maintained restrooms, so you're never far from a pit stop.

🛒 Local Supermarkets: Your Souvenir Savior!

Skip the overpriced tourist traps and head to the local supermarkets! We found Carrefour, a huge supermarket chain in Taiwan, to be a treasure trove of unique and affordable souvenirs. Plus, you get to experience where everyday Taiwanese people shop! Feeling peckish after a long day of exploring? No problem - many supermarkets are open 24/7, perfect for those late-night souvenir sprees (just like us!).
