Two days at Sun Moon Lake (日月潭), Taiwan🇹🇼

Hello Lemon8 Fam 👋🏼, having been using Lemon8 🍋 for a while now, I thought I’d share some travel snaps of my recent Taiwan 🇹🇼 trip in Jan 2024! This post would focus on what we did during our two days at Sun Moon Lake (日月潭). Hope it would help some out there 😄

1️⃣ Stand-up Paddleboarding🏄🏻‍♂️: We booked this package on Klook at $77 SGD per pax for 2h, inclusive of equipment, lockers, instructor guidance, as well as photos and even drone footages 🤩. Definitely worth our money for an experience that is one of a kind!

2️⃣ Catching the Sunrise☀️ at Shuishe Pier: For the early birds or nature-lovers, this is something not to miss. While we chose Shuishe Pier, there are other piers along the lake to catch the sunrise from as well (e.g. Zhaowu Pier). Be sure to bring some warm clothing as it may be chilly esp before the sun rises.

3️⃣ Hohocha ☕️: Just a short 10 minute drive from Shuishe is one of Sun Moon Lake’s most popular tea factories! Though there is an entrance fee of 80TWD (~$3+ SGD) per pax, there is a coupon provided in return for 20TWD off any purchase, as well as a complementary set of their signature tea☕️ , cookie🍪 and tea egg🥚 for each pax. There are also informative displays to educate visitors on how the tea-making process is done, as well as a really huge selection of teas, biscuits and other related items at their store! Their icecream🍦 is rly yummy too!!😋

4️⃣ Wenwu Temple🛕: It is one of the bigger temples located at the lake, built in 1938 and rebuilt in 1969. We admired the intricate architecture and design, as well as observed some of the practices ongoing in the temple. If you are religious or adventurous, you could pay a small sum to have various deities’ blessings and have your name hung on a pendant in the temple!

5️⃣ Ci En Pagoda🗼: It takes only ~ 20 min to get from the carpark to the top of the Pagoda (comprising a 600m gradual ascent followed by ~6 stories of stair climbing), and it will certainly not disappoint. Be prepared to be awed at the panoramic views of Sun-Moon Lake!

6️⃣ Exploring Ita Thao🏠: Ita Thao is a small village across the lake from where we stayed (Shuishe). A driver told us that owing to certain reasons, street food was only permitted in Ita Thao and not Shuishe. We took about 2h to walk through the streets of the village, and sampled many beverages, crackers, biscuits and more!🥤 🍪 There was this particular Tea Cream Puff shop that we wanted to buy from, but unfortunately it was closed during the two days we went 🙁

7️⃣ Evening Stroll along walkways 🌲: There are very well-constructed walkways from Shuishe to Xiangshan (~3km) or Shuishe towards Ita Thao (~5km) which make for really great walks 🏃🏻‍♂️or cycles 🚴🏻‍♂️. Simply take in the cool breeze 💨 and the grandeur of the lake as you walk or cycle! Do note that the actual distance from Shuishe to Ita Thao is about 9km - only the first 5km offers the walkways. The rest of the journey is along the roads!
