English Tips: Use Adjectives in a Correct Order! ✅

I’m back with another simple English sharing! These are the notes that I prepared for my home and online tuition students. I tried so hard to make it easy to understand for my kids. Thus, I decided to spice up the notes by adding pictures rather than just plain words and even created an acronym for them to memorize too, in hopes that they could understand and remember better.

Other teachers may have different approaches, but this is mine. Then, I thought it could be beneficial for you guys as well. Hence, I’m sharing it here. Hope it helps! 🙆🏻‍♀️💕

📌 What are adjectives?

Adjectives are words that describe nouns such as people, places or things.

When more than one adjectives are being used in a sentence, they must be placed in a correct order.

📌 OSPASCOMP is the acronym of adjectives order. Let’s find out what OSPASCOMP stands for, and how to use it correctly?

O - Opinion

S - Size

P - Physical Quality

A - Age

S - Shape

C - Colour

O - Origin

M - Material

P - Purpose

📌 How to use OSPASCOMP adjectives order in a sentence?

Let’s see some of the examples!

❎ Her brown, round, beautiful eyes.

✅ Her beautiful, round, brown eyes.

✍🏻 Beautiful, round and brown are the adjectives that describe her eyes. Opinion (beautiful) comes first and followed by Shape (round) and Colour (brown).

❎ An old, rough, wooden, Spanish dining table.

✅ A rough, old, Spanish, wooden dining table.

✍🏻 There are five adjectives in the sentence to describe a table. The correct order should be Physical Quality, Age, Origin, Material and Purpose.

❎ A young, tall and caring girl.
