Halluu halluuu, lovelies! I’m Fie. 🧚🏼‍♀️✨

My sharing today is about Creator’s Block and how to deal with it? Let’s find out!

📌 Creator’s (creative) block usually experienced by the people in creative field including content creators who are facing a reduction in creative thinking and productivity for a period of time. This will lead to difficulties in generating new ideas and even executing existing ideas creatively.

It’s the same as what I’m facing right now. Creative block is REAL! I’m out of fresh ideas and sometimes the idea is there but I’m stucked, not really sure what to do next. It’s soooo frustrating and of course affects the time frame of contents that should be released too.

I think I’ve been stressed out with my day-to-day life with so many things going on, it’s overwhelming and at the same time energy draining. Being a perfectionist myself is another story. I don’t simply post a content that hasn’t even reach my benchmark (perfection). Hence, I tend to spend a lot time ‘perfecting’ my drafts and end up with less progress, thus leading me to give up in the middle of the process.

Have you ever encountered the same thing? Let me share some of the effective tips in dealing with creator’s block!

✅ Take a Break.

Always bear in mind to press pause when things get overwhelmed. Step away from what we’re doing for a while. Stretch our body a bit, take a walk, get some fresh air, connect with nature, include human interaction, ‘alone time’ and deep talk with Allah, take a bath, cool down. Give our brain a break before coming back feeling fresh, getting the creative juices flowing.

✅ Start Brainstorming.

Do a brain dump by listing out all of the topic ideas on sticky notes or in my case Notes app and start brainstorming from there. Don’t bother the grammar, spelling, sentences structure, etc. Just focus on creating a path forward from ‘the block’ and slowly begins to see the bigger picture of the ideas listed. You’ll be surprised by the continuous ideas generation till a complete content has finally come to live.

✅ Read/Watch/Listen to Something Inspiring.

Read a great book, watch youtube videos from anyone who inspires us, listen to a podcast. Do that while sipping a cup of aromatic coffee, chamomile tea or hot chocolate. Those little sparks of inspiration from others sometimes really help us to be creatively inspired.

✅ Shut Out Distractions.

Create a distractions free environment by putting our phone on silent or flight mode. If there’s a designated room for working, close the door. Otherwise, put on headphone and listen to calm music. Shut out all sorts of distractions. These will help us to focus more and dive deep into creative thinking.

✅ Stop Chasing Perfectionism.

Nobody’s perfect, nothing in this world is perfect. Everything has flaws and imperfections. Don’t let perfectionism keep us from delivering our creativity to the world. It’s okay to share a ‘good enough’ content as what’s only ‘good enough’ to us may be absolutely incredible for many people.

✅ Work Differently Than Usual Routine.

Try to shift working space, try different timing, adopt different style of working, try using different media or apps to work on the ideas. Work differently can force our brains to think differently as well. These changes unnecessarily be permanent. Just shake things up for a couple of days and see what suits us best.

✅ ‘Peak Time’ is The Best Time.

It’s hard to be creative when our brains are tired and our body feels sluggish. Spend our time to work during this peak time where our mental and physical energy levels are at their highest. We surely know our own productive time to concentrate and get all creative.

✅ Never Give Up.

More than anything else, NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Keep the momentum going even if we don’t really like the content that we’re producing. ‘Good enough’ is our benchmark, remember? There’s no instant result, but always believe that eventually we’ll be creating something amazing without even realizing it. So, never give up!

Overall, it’s a normal thing for a creator to experience creator’s block. Don’t despair, keep going, trust the process, implement all of these tips. Most importantly, don’t forget to celebrate the victory as a token of appreciation towards our hardwork. Then, get started on the next awesome contents of ours because we’ve got more in us! 🍋✨
