The stroma layer is transparent, allowing colors to range from colorless blues to deep blues, even violets.

Cat eye color results from the combination of existing pigment and blue light reflection.

Almost all kittens are born with cloudy blue eyes (within 6 weeks) due to the absence of melanocytes, making blue a result of light refraction from the stroma layer.

Around 12 weeks old, a cat's final eye color will fully manifest.
