Sleepless nights are horrible, especially when you’ve got an early day tomorrow yet your mind’s still on overdrive 🌪️ A simple google search might recommend melatonin, but how effective is it, and how safe is it? 🤔

Simply put, melatonin is a hormone that helps you sleep. Though produced normally in bodies, it can also easily be affected by external factors like environment (too much light) or stimuli (using electronics). 📴 Consuming melatonin as a supplement before bedtime can thus help induce sleep.

.。.:*☆ 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬?

A bunch of my friends have told me they’ve been too afraid to try melatonin - and tbh, I did too. Professionals still lack studies and research of long-term melatonin usage, so possible side effects are still unknown, but they’re generally still 100% safe for short-term usage! 👍🏼

A rule of thumb, though - definitely only take it when you need it! For me, I usually only take it when I have something important the next day that I have to wake up for, or when I end up still tossing and turning about at 3am in the morning after 4 hours in bed 💆🏻‍♀️

For the melatonins I’ve tried, it usually takes 30 mins for it to fully take effect and for me to fall asleep. Around 15 mins in I start feeling a little sleepier. Do note that melatonin (especially those in higher dosages) might result in drowsiness upon waking up!

This was the first melatonin I tried, and it worked well for me! I liked that they incorporated more traditional herbs etc. (said to help promote the natural production of melatonin in the body). I did often feel a little drowsiness/sluggish-ness upon waking up when I ate these. I did a more in-depth post here 🍋

I just started on these, and I like them a lot! More affordable than the Moom ones, and they’re more palatable. I like the gummy texture (tastes like a chewier and softer version of bubble tea pearls 🧋), with a yummy blackcurrant taste. Do ensure that these are kept in a cool, dry area though - I’ve seen tiktoks of them melting together into one giant slab .. which is… not ideal 😰😰😰
