It’s harvest season, of course I’m alone.

I used to dread harvest and planting seasons as a farmer’s girlfriend. It was always, “This is the busy season, I won’t have time to be with you at everything. Maybe we can hang out this winter?” My future mother-in-law would vent about how much harvest season sucks because you're basically on your own. It took me a long time to embrace living my life fully without my partner by my side.

Now, I go to family and friends' events solo, play the third wheel, and cheer on my nieces and nephews at their games (even though I’m not a fan of sports). I eat dinner alone, make my own plans, and if he can join, great—if not, oh well. Life is too short to wait around. Do the things, even if it means doing them alone.

P.S. I love my husband and we do spend time together—it just looks like sitting in the buddy seat and bringing him dinner. I love "widow season" as much as any other season. God bless our farmers and their strong willed wives.
