TANYU vs My Grandma — who cooks better fish? 🤨

Very bold comparison, I know HAHAHAHA 🤪 Because how can I possibly compare my grandma’s fish to a grilled fish restaurant chain’s right (my ah ma’s fish is rly good btw)😭✋

Anyways, I’ve always wanted to try 探鱼 𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘂 BUT because most of its outlets are located in town, the laziness in me just tells me to “eat next time when I’m around the area” which never ever happened LMAO (they’ve been in SG since 2017 btw) 🥲

Then one fine day, Tanyu swam came to Punggol, which also meant that there’s no longer excuses for me to not try it anymore 😔✊ I immediately flew down to Waterway Point to try what’s so special about this popular grilled fish restaurant chain and guess what? I’M IN LOVE 💗👄💗

Upon stepping into the Waterwaypoint outlet, it felt as though I stepped into Haidilao but on dark mode HAHAHA it was sooo spacious and we were very lucky to get a corner seat (yay to more space!) 🤪

Oh and to browse through the menu and order food, you’ll have to scan the QR code on the table~~

I was quite surprised at the variety of flavours that Tanyu offers— from spicy grilled fish flavours like Hot Spicy with Pepper to non-spicy options like Garlic flavour, there’s definitely something for all! 🐠

🐟 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗰-𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 蒜香味 ($𝟰𝟳.𝟵𝟬)

WA MEGA LOVE THE FISH EH. I love the fact that it doesn’t have a fishy taste like most fishes have and the meat tasted really fresh 🤤

There was a slight peppery taste to it and though they call it the garlic flavour, it doesn’t really taste like garlic until I eat the fish with the garlic clove (which was rly good btw)🤣

The sauce that the fish was cooked in was also quite nice on its own! Not too salty, which was perfect 😙😙

We ordered the Limbo Fish (VERY LITTLE BONES & WAS VERY SWEET) but if you want to try something new, you can choose from other fishes like the Qingjiang Fish, Sea Bass or Limbo Fish Fillet too!

🫔 𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗬𝗨 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹 探鱼拉丝芝士春卷 ($𝟲.𝟴𝟬/𝟰𝗽𝗰𝘀)

MUST ORDER!!! This has got to be one of the best spring rolls I’ve ever had 🤩 It tasted like fried gyoza/wanton and was sooooo umami!!!

They said there was cheese inside but I didn’t taste any HAHAHAHA which was good because imagine the taste of cheese with veggies and the sauce inside…KINDA WEIRD

Wish the portion was bigger though :-(

🍆 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗴𝗴𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 烤茄子($𝟳.𝟴𝟬)

If you like eggplant, you’ll like this 😆 the first bite tasted a little bitter and garlicky (due to the garlic on top) and the texture was also meltingly tender (or nua) HAHAHA 🤪

It’s nice but after a while, it does get a little jelak if you don’t pair it with rice 🫠🫠

So the question is…does it taste better than my ah ma’s fish? 🤔 The verdict is that I CANNOT ANSWER LA walao how to compare right HAHAAHAHAHA

But I do love the food tanyu offered and will definitely head back to try their Grilled Fish with Twelve Ingredients!!

Try to be there early to get a queue number though…we visited around 7pm and waited for 45 minutes on Friday 🫠
