First solo(ish) trip since graduation, and decided to head Down Under for a week!
First and last days were spent mainly travelling and eating with family, so here’s a brief itinerary / photolog for the Mon-Fri leading up to Easter Weekend, mostly by public transport/foot :)
> Did not get to go to Blue Mountains / further out as a result, but there’s plenty within the city itself!
✨🧴
D1 / MON ☝🏼
• Weekday 0830H is /the/ perfect time for strolling around the harbour cuz there’s absolutely no one :’)
• Started and ended at Wynyard Station - which has a Lululemon store (🤓) and food.
• Strolled down the CBD (plenty of coffee stops for that morning cup of coffee/tea!) to Circular Quay / Harbour Bridge > Opera Bay > Sydney Opera House > there’s an entrance to Royal Botanic Gardens 🌳directly next to the opera house > stroll down to Mrs Macquarie’s Point > U-turn back thereafter and walk along the bay (Campbells Cove to Hickson Road Reserve / Dawes Point Reserve to Walsh Bay to Barangaroo Reserve and down to Darling Harbour — or be like me and head back to Wynyard to hide in the shade 🥵).
> Barangaroo Reserve has beautiful spots along the water to sit and rest - but no shade 💀
• Caught a meal at The Rocks, grabbed dessert at Gelato Messina (would recommend Martin Place rather than the classic Circular Quay! Newer, cooler, much less crowded, and has a fountain view. Also has plenty of food options downstairs)
• Headed back to the city proper after: Pitt Street, QVB, etc, and down to Darling Harbour if you were thwarted by the sun earlier like me aha.
• Tip: bring snacks, and please spam sunblock 🧴
✨🐥
D2 / TUE ✌🏻
• Annual Royal Sydney Easter Show!
• The one place that my dad (who studied in Oz for uni) recommended for me to go
• Bought tix the night before on TicketMaster #YOLO
• Getting there: There are major event buses in many stops across the city (the events page has a map) but would /strongly/ recommend finding a bus stop that has a few buses HAHA. This girl missed 3 across 3 different stops (yes I.. just kept walking down) and lost 1h+ omg.
• Carnival + agricultural shows + farm animals including very noisy poultry (not pictured), sheep horses pigs and goats, and a large nursery where you can pet and feed some of the shorn sheep! 🐏
• Many educational signboards and shows 📖🙌🏻
• Tip: Good place to explore local food and crafts too (bought some goat’s milk soap and handmade gold-bonded jewellery hehe)
✨🌊
D3 / WED 👌🏻
• Manly Beach
• Took the bus to Manly Wharf and walked down
• Walked along the beach to the beautiful cliffs
• Many rockpools and quieter beaches along the way if you would like to take a dip (too hot = I cmi)
• Lunch break at Norma’s Deli (amazing Italian deli), and there are some beachside shops around too.
• Semi-hiked up to North Head / Fairfax Lookout - doable in 2h, or if you have a cousin with a car like I did aha > truly the most beautiful view I’ve seen 🥹
• TAKE THE FERRY BACK TO THE CITY.
• TAKE IT
• SIT OUTSIDE IF YOU CAN (but pls use sunblk🧴)
• BEST $9 YOU WILL SPEND THE WHOLE TRIP
• Took the fast ferry, but both are comparable :)
• Gelato round two when back in the city ehehe 🍦
✨🌊
D4 / THU 🖖🏻
• Bondi beach day!
• AKA: Bondi-Coogee walk, approx 2h.
• Gloomy overcast day because of an unexpected morning downpour - which was a blessing in disguise because the paths were mostly quiet and empty, and the weather was good for once :)
(But this girl forgot to bring her phone charger so girl was /stressed/)
• Fish&chips at Costi’s at Coogee 🐟
• Take the bus back to Bondi for shopping :)
> was here just barely a week or two before the Bondi Junction incident occured ❤️🩹🕊️
• I headed back to Bondi Beach a second time because the sun came out; there are shops around that area too. Would NOT recommend walking from Bondi Junction>Bondi Beach haha PLS take the bus.
✨🦒
D5 / FRI ✋🏻
• Good Friday meant that most shops were closed,
• So had a day out at Taronga Zoo!!
• Watch the animal shows - they’re not only educational, but some also have a beautiful skyline in the background :”)
• Koalas ofc 🐨
• Headed back to the city for: Grease the Musical!!
> opening week and they happened to have an afternoon show which was perfect for today :)
> plenty of other musicals around for reasonable prices; would strongly recommend catching one esp in the evening when most shops are closed!
• Betty’s Burgers 🍔🥤
> RECOMMENDDD. It is everywhere, but I only succumbed to it after watching Grease (#iykyk ) and promptly regretted not eating this earlier HAHA 😭
• Strolled down from QVB back to Circular Quay to catch the sunset on my final evening in this city :”)
✨🕺🏻
Has been years since l've done long quiet walks like these, and I’d forgotten how cathartic it could be.
I hope you enjoy this place as much as I did.
