Identity crisis in Aussie 😳

P's name as per his birth certificate is (Last name) (Chinese name part 1) (Chinese name part 2), P (first name). We had a little crisis when we went to ServiceNSW to convert our SG driver license to Aussie driver license.

If you take a look at the identity card in your passport, local government customer service centre would follow your name as listed at the bottom of this card. As listed, before the first set of arrows is your last name and right after the arrows, that’s your locally recognise first name. This meant that P's name as approved by the Aussie government is first name - chinese name part 1 and

last name.

As per Aussie government, P is not his first name. Having gone by P his entire life, it was shocking that in this system, they would address him by his Chinese name part 1 and he could list ‘P’ as his preferred name.

There’s no right or wrong to this, it’s just how they do things here!
