ATAS ASTONS FOR VALENTINE'S DAY? 🤭 THAT'S RIGHT 😏

Everyone knows Astons for its affordable western eats that is miles better than saizeriya... (like I don't get the hype, if you want sth affordable you should eat hawker food? it's way better) but I digress lol!! Did you know they have an ✨atas✨ sister restaurant?

From their site description: The RANCH Steakhouse & Bar by ASTONS is a classic steakhouse concept that aims to bring you high-quality beef from around the world, fine wines and top-notch service second to none on a daily. We feature premium and succulent dry-aged beef, premium beef and secondary cuts that offer robust all-rounded flavours and tenderness all in one mouthful, yet at prices that you will not find elsewhere.

And let me tell you— this is so true! I first chanced upon The Ranch after experiencing a depreciating quality of service + food at my usual anniversary restaurant Bedrock Bar + Grill. The staff there were very snobby and cold, and selective in their attention which was so different to when I started going to them years and years ago! My friend even opened a $$$ wine for her anniversary and still got treated like shit with a $700 bill 👀💀

I went to The Ranch initially not expecting much, but I was absolutely blown away by the level of service and care they had in recommending items, checking in on us, and most important of all, the quality of the food at amazing prices. I was absolutely stuffed and the amount of food we ordered was way more than at Bedrock, and our bill only came to $210 for 3 starters, 700g bone-in dry-aged ribeye steak (roughly 400-500g) deboned, and alcohol. In comparison, 2 starters + ribeye steak and alcohol in Bedrock was $280.

Since then, we have never looked back— we've been here for 4 anniversaries and will continue to go back!

Here's a breakdown of some of our favourite dishes 👀

WHAT WE HAVE TRIED:

• Classic French Onion Soup ($12)

I have ordered French onion soup trying to find the closest one to what I had in Strasbourg, and this one is the closest by far. I've tried many a pitiful imitation, and this one is no letdown. It's hot, rich, sinful, and warms you right down to your soul.

• Rack of lamb 300g ($62)

The Ranch modifies its menu from time to time, and one of my favourite entrees used to be the lamb riblets before they removed it. I get this whenever I feel nostalgic— it's herb crusted with English mustard, so fresh with no gamey taste, and cooked to perfection.

• Foie Gras ($32)

This pan-seared duck liver is really rich and nicely balanced out with balsamic vinegar and onion marmalade brioche to cut the "gao-ness". A solid starter 👏🏼

• Butter Roasted Barramundi ($38)

Melts in your mouth like a little slice of heaven 🤩🙏🏼 if you or your date doesn't like steak or grilled meats, this is a solid option.

STEAKS

The prices here for steak are cheaper than other steakhouses like Wolfgang & Bedrock and they have amazing showmanship as well. I'm always amazed by how much more affordable it is here when the quality is so good but I guess you are paying for the name for other places. 🤧 They light up, cut and serve the steaks right by your table, with the bones left there plated for you for those who enjoy meat on the bone!

• The Ranch Exclusive A3 Japanese Wagyu 220g ($78)

Before they revamped the menu it was offered in their signature steaks selection and we made the horrible mistake of ordering 400g of wagyu. Let me just say the amount of "gao-ness" is REAL!! I felt like I was eating sticks of butter by the end of it! Wagyu is so delicious and loved for the melt-in-mouth sensation and how rich and fatty it is, but please don't order 400g for 2 people lmao this portion is just perfect 😭🙏🏼

• 30-day aged USDA prime ribeye

This is my favourite and very competitively priced. It melts in your mouth with amazing flavour, it's so fresh and succulent and I always tear up because of how good it is!! I used to be vegetarian (10 years!!) and I'm very fussy with how meat tastes because I'm sensitive if it's not fresh or has even the slightest gamey taste. The steaks here I've had are always consistently good with great cuts, I have never been disappointed before! Also honourable mention: the tomatoes served with this explodes in your mouth 🥺❤️❤️

DISCONTINUED ITEMS

• Pork jowl

I'm annoyed they took this off the menu because this was so good. The apple slices complimented the soft pork jowl perfectly and it was a little piece of heaven in my mouth. If you go pls demand it comes back as they listen to feedback 🥺🙏🏼

• Lamb riblets

Reviewed earlier but omg.. pls.. This is so good I don't know why they took it off the menu 😭 the portion was perfect if you didn't want to eat a whole ass serving of lamb

• Hamachi collar

A lunch favourite too, I know I keep saying the same thing over and over again but it was so fatty and soft and melts in your mouth, there is hardly any seasoning for this because it doesn't need it!! Just the pure essence of damn good fish 😭❤️

They've moved to a new location now at Purvis St to make way for a refurb of Clark Quay— I heard the area is now introducing more afternoon eats! The new location looks so good and I can't wait to go back 🥺❤️

If you work in the area, I highly recommend going for their afternoon menu as well. It's really affordable for a good business lunch 👏🏼

I always get carried away when I review my favourite places, but I hope this was informative and inspired you to try it out yourself 🥺 it's criminally underrated and never fully packed when I go, which I don't understand why!!
