SUPERGOOP MINERAL SHEER SCREEN- IS IT AN UPGRADE?

I have been raving about the Supergoop Mineral Sheer Screen for like 2 years now and it remains my holy grail sunscreen. I've tried a few cult favourites, but so far nothing has come close.

I have also tried a few of Supergoop!'s other sunscreens (maybe I'll do a comparison post next time) and I think this one works best for my skin type and under my makeup!

Let's first delve into the comparison before I share my thoughts on the new formulation! ✨

🌞 SPF 30 vs SPF 50 MINERAL SHEER SCREEN

❗️ Texture difference- the original has a mousse-like, airy texture, while the new (SPF50) is more thick and sticky

✔️ Both work well under makeup, does not affect foundation wear time

❗️ The new formulation feels more oily/ heavy, but absorbs easily still

✨ I could not feel a noticeable difference in efficacy, but would recommend re-applying if you will be outdoors for long

🌞 COMMON ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT SPF

Usually when I try to recommend this sunscreen, those who try it out love the texture and lightweight feeling (it's also not sticky/ oily), but the common remark is "huh, but SPF 30 only? I think not high enough"

SPF30 sunscreen admits 1/30th of the ambient UV, SPF50 admits 1/50th etc. This means that SPF50+ offers only marginally better protection from Ultra Violet (UV) radiation than SPF30+, filtering out 98 per cent of UV radiation compared to 96.7 per cent blocked by SPF30. 😅 that's... almost negligible!

Most sunscreens in fact formulated at a slightly higher SPF to be sure that during testing at different laboratories, it will pass the SPF test.

Plus- sunscreens need to be applied liberally to achieve the SPF protection claimed on the label- and most of us don't apply anywhere near enough!! 😅 regardless of whether you are using SPF 30 or 50, you need to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours ❗️

✨ My final thoughts:

😬 I will be going back to the SPF 30 mineral sheer screen after finishing this tube. The texture/ feel of it on my face is important for my comfort, and I prefer how it feels both under makeup and also when applying it barefaced.

However! If you don't mind the texture or are lazy to re-apply sunscreen throughout the day, it makes sense to go for the SPF 50. Stay tuned for my full Supergoop sunscreen roundup (I have tried 5 different products of theirs!!) 👀
