1 year into #Adulting101 and here is what I'm swearing off:

1. ☕️ Caffeine dependency

I told myself I’d never be that person who can’t start the day or get through the midday slump without caffeine.

I want my body to be fueled by rest and nutrition not… coffee haha.

Anyway caffeine gives me heart palpitations, energy crashes and terrible sleep the night of - not to mention coffee runs really do add up!

✅ What I do instead:

-I wake up at the same time everyday as much as possible (unless I had the occasional night out, I’m still fun) and this really helps maintain my energy levels throughout the day.

2. 💸 Lifestyle inflation

“But you’d never be 23 and tripping in Bali every weekend again” is terrible advice in my opinion haha.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not anti-fun or anti-life for that matter but not every splurge should be justified by this, they add up like crazy!

I know friends who literally can’t afford to quit or leave their jobs because of their lifestyle and spending habits. I can’t imagine not being able to quit a job I hate, or be pressured to stay in my field because I cant take a paycut.

✅ What I do instead:

-I budget for things I want so I don’t compromise my financial goals (Eg. If I want to buy a $130 e-reader I’d eat out 2x less that month)

-I always ask myself what I want my money to do for me, to buy me another dress or to get to choose what I do with my time later in life?

3. 🧐 Not learning (outside of work)

I’ve been working full-time for a year now, and I can feel that my brain is getting a little hazy and not the Lavender Haze sort lol.

I find that I stopped being as critical in my reasoning and I was no longer as perceptive. This to me is super important, because I would never want to lose myself building someone else's dream and become irrelevant 30 years later.

✅ What I do instead:

-I intentionally seek out long form content (Eg. Books, case studies, academic publications) so that I’m forced to condense my own takeaways on any topic that piques my interest. This keeps me curious and teachable, as I work to figure out how to... life.
