I watched a documentary called “Just. One. Mile.” the other day and it was really inspiring. It’s about runners who do a mile loop until there’s 1 person left standing. They’ll run for 30+ hours!! The main guy is a former navy seal and talks about the mental strength that goes into that challenge..not the physical one.

He talked about how during “hell week” in the navy, people who researched everything to come and focused on being SO physically prepared were some of the first ones to drop out. He said ❗️”sometimes if you know too much, you fail to see the big picture” ❗️(I’m roughly paraphrasing)

And that got me thinking about everything that gives me anxiety and how I tend to think that if I try and plan everything, research every detail, understand every moment that will happen then my anxiety will go away when in fact it’s the opposite. There’s such thing as information overload! I tend to fail to see the big picture.

For example: if I have a work presentation, instead of focusing on educating myself on the topic so I feel like I truly understand it, I’ll focus on the exact words I need to say, what time I’m going to be speaking, when I need to pause, etc etc and I SPIRAL. Or another example: in preparing myself to try for a kid, I started researching literally everything and found that it was making me more anxious about all that could go wrong and what I needed to do instead of thinking “this is an exciting time. Treat your body well and your body will do the rest”.

❤️So if you’re like me and you find comfort in over planning but still have anxiety, try this out. Let someone else plan it. Be a little unprepared and trust yourself that you’re going to figure it out because you WILL and you will get through it.❤️
