short books for literary girls

As a former English major, I was forced to many, very long literary novels. My attention span these days is not quite up for that challenge anymore. I think I burnt myself out. Now I tends more towards short literary novels when I get the urge to read something that I could also maybe write a literary analysis on. These are some of my faves!

I picked up SOMEONE WHO WILL LOVE YOU IN ALL YOUR DAMAGED GLORY based solely on two things: 1) the title 2) the broken egg, pink cover. I went in blind and it’s one of the best things I’ve read. It’s a short story collection that is so amazingly bizarre. I think about it all the time.

I don’t love Jane Austen (I know, I know) but PERSUASION is my favorite book by her. It’s like the OG second chance romance novel. Some of the lines in this book, oof they hit.

MILK FED is such a strange book. It’s like a fever dream that puts you under it’s spell and you can’t get out? the main character’s mind is a wild place to be. yet, she was sort of relatable? I don’t fully understand it all, but I know I loved it.
