What is Radiology? 🩻

Radiology is a medical specialty that uses various types of imaging to diagnose conditions or diseases throughout the entire body. Radiologists interpret and report the results of a study to guide other providers on the treatment and prognosis (outcomes) of patients.

There are many subspecialties in radiology where you can have focused training and become an expert in a specific area:

Abdominal

Breast

Cardiothoracic

Interventional Radiology

Musculoskeletal

Neuroradiology

Nuclear Medicine

Pediatric

The type of imaging needed can vary for diagnosing diseases & specific populations.

Mammograms are used for identifying breast diseases or cancer.

US & MRI are used more often in pediatric patients to reduce radiation exposure.

MRI is also great for neuroimaging of the brain & spinal cord.
