Why I chose Radiology 🩻👩🏻‍⚕️

Here are the reasons I chose to become a radiologist:

🤕🤒😷The Role of Imaging in Patient Care:

Radiology has an essential role in patient care. Most patients in the emergency room or hospital are imaged to help find out why they aren’t feeling well. These images help physicians decide how to treat patients. Do they need to stay in the hospital? Do they need surgery or a procedure? Do they need to start following a specialist for a condition or disease? Radiology can help figure this out!

👴🏽👵🏼🧓🏻Imaging is also essential for finding certain diseases early through screenings. Common examples are mammograms to screen women for breast cancer and low-dose CT scans of the lungs in chronic smokers.

🫀🫁🧠Pathology and Anatomy:

As a radiologist, you see many patient scans with various pathologies daily! I also enjoy anatomy, especially when you find an anatomical variant. A variant is a non-harmful finding where a person’s anatomy is slightly different from what most people have!

💉🩸📟Procedures, Technology, Innovation:

There is a lot of opportunity for performing procedures in all the subspecialties in radiology. Interventional Radiology has the broadest scope of procedures.

There are always new advancements in imaging, technology, and procedures! I wanted to become a part of this growth and advancement in medicine.

🗣️👥🏥Collaboration:

As a radiologist, you can collaborate with many physicians in different specialties! You work together to figure out what is best for the patient. You also collaborate with many professionals within the department, including radiology nurses, technologists, assistants, NPs, and PAs.
