I tried an orange theory workout class … here are my thoughts!

First off, I was not prepared for this class! My friend told me she signed us up less than an hour before the class started! All I knew about orange theory was that it was a workout class people were going crazy over!

Once there I learned that the workout is based off of heart rate zones and changing your speed/movements to switch between all the zones. Classes are an hour long. The first 30 mins you’re either on the treadmills or weights/rowing and then you switch for the last 30 mins. For each thing you do the instructor gives modifications if needed which I found helpful as someone who has physical restrictions.

Personally, I thought the class was kind of hard to follow as a first time participant. Since the class is split in half, the instructor switches back and forth between groups so I found it hard to tell when she was talking to my half or the other (you really have to be paying attention).

Overall, I liked the class once I got the hang of who the instructor was talking to. I felt like I got a good workout in and liked that I could track my calories/heart rate zones throughout the workout.

I’m reviewing this 3 days later and my legs are still sore! (but that may be because I’ve haven’t done a full hard core work out since breaking my back 😂).

One con of OT is the price - depending on the package and location it can be upwards of $190 a month. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing a membership anytime soon due to that price point but if it’s something you can afford I highly recommend signing up for a free trial class and checking it out :)
